Your Options

Medigap vs. Medicare Advantage — Which Fits You?

The two main ways to get Medicare coverage beyond Original Medicare work very differently.

Option 1

Medicare Supplement (Medigap)

  • Works alongside Original Medicare Parts A and B
  • Covers gaps like copays, coinsurance, deductibles
  • Use any doctor or hospital that accepts Medicare
  • No networks or referrals required
  • Predictable costs for frequent medical care
  • Requires a separate Part D drug plan

Best for: people who travel, see specialists, or want maximum flexibility.

Option 2

Medicare Advantage (Part C)

  • Private plan that replaces Original Medicare
  • Usually includes Part D drug coverage
  • May offer dental, vision, hearing benefits
  • Often lower or $0 monthly premiums
  • Network-based — must use plan providers
  • Copays and out-of-pocket costs vary by plan

Best for: people who want bundled coverage and extra benefits at a lower premium.
